🃏 Hilo Spribe: the aim and rules of the game
The main aim of Hilo Spribe is to score as few points as possible. At the end of each round, the points are scored and when a player exceeds 100 points, the game stops. To begin with, note that the cards are numbered from -1 to 11. They are also marked with different colours, of which there are 8 in total.
All the players have a grid of 9 cards with all the faces hidden in front of them. They then turn over 2 cards at random, and the player with the highest score starts the game.
In this game, players have to change the cards in front of them. The aim of this stage is to replace the cards with others with weaker points. This ensures that the player has as few points as possible at the end of the game. It also means that rows, diagonals or columns can be eliminated to lose even more points.
Hilo Spribe: modifying your maps
Here, the 2nd player (the player with the lowest score when 2 cards are randomly turned over at the start of the game) can change his cards. There are two possibilities: the first is to take the card with its face up (the discard card) and the second is to choose the card with its face down (the draw card).
If the player chooses the face-up card, they must swap it for another card on their board, whether it is visible or not. The exchanged card is then discarded. However, when the second option is chosen, i.e. the face-down card, the player has the opportunity to see the card and to decide whether or not to swap it. If he decides not to exchange it, he is obliged to place it on the discard pile and must necessarily turn over one of his face-up cards. However, if he decides to exchange it, the chosen card is placed on the discard pile and replaced by another card drawn or face down.
Hilo Spribe: announce the Hilo
During the game, if a player places a new (3rd) card of the same colour on a diagonal, column or row, the cards located at that level are discarded and the player can get rid of them. Furthermore, at this stage, numbers do not matter. Only the colours are taken into account. As a result, the player's board is reduced.
When a player runs out of cards or all his cards are turned over, the end of the round is near. However, the other players can play a final game. After that, they can turn over all their cards. To determine the winners, each player's cards must be added together. However, remember that the player who triggers the end of the game must have the lowest sum in the game. If this is not the case, the player's score must be doubled. What's more, if no player obtains a total of 100 points at the end of the round, they must play a final game. The game ends when one player reaches this score. Finally, the player with the lowest score wins the Hilo Spribe game.
🃏 Hilo Spribe: players' opinions
For some players, the Hilo Spribe game resembles that of Skyjo. In one, the numbers are not taken into account, but the colours aligned. In the other, however, players have to play with values to align. And for most players, Hilo Spribe is more interesting than Skyjo's game.
The Hilo Spribe game is simple and accessible to everyone. It's easy to understand when you understand the rules. The game is easy to start and can be played much more quickly.
